Often I go down to the beach very early before sunrise with my 2 dogs, for me it’s the best part of the day, not too hot and little wind, the only other person about will be the local fishing man. The sky starts turning from a dark blackness to a magnificent storm of colour, never the same and never the same colours, always different and always glorious, it sometimes takes my breath away. No morning is the same you never know what you are going to see a spectacular sunrise or dense cloud and nothing just a haze, depending on that sunrise depends what the local fisherman will do, if it's a fierce sun he’s out there casting his nets as the fish are coming up to greet the sun and he may get a good catch. Clouds and a dull sun he goes home. I’ve tried to capture the colours, I know I can never do nature justice but I’ve tried to get that dramatic effect of the sun just beginning up peep up over the horizon, the fisherman in his boat is pulling in his haul and desperately hoping for a good catch, fishing here is a rough and dangerous business, it’s the weather decides when they go fishing and it's the weather decides if they come back, every time our local fishing man goes out he says goodbye to his family as if it's the last time he will see them, they go out in their boats far out to sea, I see them sometimes out there when the sea is black and angry, the sky grey and forbidding, that little boat is tossing around he has no life jacket, he probably can’t even swim. I used very broad brush strokes and a palette knife on a gesso prepared canvas, the side are painted black and it’s an individual choice re a frame but I think in the right setting and in the right frame this would be a very striking painting hanging on your wall.
